Kucinich: Climate Change is 32nd Reason To Impeach Bush Print E-mail

Had you turned on C-SPAN yesterday evening, you would have seen Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) rise on House floor to read his 35 articles of impeachment against President Bush. Five hours later he finished.

In terms of C-SPAN viewing excitement, this event ranked slightly ahead of last week's eight-hour reading of the 491-page Boxer amendment to the climate change bill. Sometime during hour five, after reading 25 articles about Iraq and the war on terror, and six articles regarding such allegations as destroying Medicare and mishandling Katrina, Kucinich made his 32nd point of the night: President Bush should be impeached for "systematically undermining efforts to address global climate change."

You'll have to scroll down to page 18 in this excerpt of the Congressional Record to get to Article XXXII about climate change, but here's the crux of the former presidential candidate's argument:

"[President Bush] has both personally and acting through his agents and subordinates, together with the Vice President, ignored the peril to life and property posed by global climate change, manipulated scientific information and mishandled protective policy, constituting nonfeasance and malfeasance in office, abuse of power, dereliction of duty, and deception of Congress and the American people."

Since Kucinich did this without the blessing of Democratic leadership, this will probably be the last you hear of the story. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has said before that impeachment is "off the table." That's code for "this is going nowhere in committee." Besides, Congress only impeaches presidents these days for lying about affairs with interns.

"Besides, Congress only impeaches presidents these days for lying about affairs with interns."

It's more likely because the Dems are just as guilty and they know it, Thats the real reason they will not impeach.

Not only Polosi, but all the democrat and I mean ALL of them voted against this measure show the level of corruption in America. The dams could have won the )4 election, they just didn't on purpose just like the upcoming election, Congress is held by mostly elitist who want to take your rights away and make you a slave. Kucinich is one of the few who isn't under their influence.

Thank you Dennis Kucinich for having the courage to stand up for many of us that know how corrupt our government is. Keep doing what you are doing.I want this president impeached. This would show the world that America is something else than the scum that cheated their way into power. I hope Obama will do his part in pushing for impeachment when he is president. I also hope that he is smart enough to ask Dennis Kucinich to make the Department of Peace a reality. We all deserve it.

Impeaching bush this late in his term of office is a sad and useless gesture. Instead of trying to settle grudges before he's out of office maybe Kucinich should be trying to make the most impact he can to correct what he can instead of going for the 'blame bush' approach.

Hi, We're EnviroWonk

Yeah, OK, we can be the change that we want to see in the world. But unless powerful people in powerful positions want to be that change as well, nothing's going to change.

So now, finally, there's a place where you can go for news and analysis of politics from an environmental perspective.
