If you're a political junkie, you really loved this past week. You had your State of the Union Address, the Florida primary, a GOP debate at the Reagan Library, a Democratic showdown in Hollywood, not to mention two major candidates giving up on their respective White House dreams. And if that's not enough, hey, Super Tuesday is just four days away! Obviously, it was a good week for EnviroWonk to go live, and we couldn't be happier with our new spot under the EcoGeek umbrella. But the past five days, though full to the brim with politics, did little to further the discussion about environmental and energy policy in this country. And that's a big disappointment. The opportunity was there of course, but with odd exception of John McCain, no one seemed interested in even touching the topic. If you sneezed you missed President Bush talking about climate change and clean coal (an odd choice of subject given DOE pulled the plug on FutureGen two days later). And you certainly didn't hear anyone talking about environmental policy during last-minute campaigning in Florida on Tuesday. We got one emissions question on Wednesday as the GOPers debated in front of Air Force One. And on Thursday, when Obama and Clinton went head-to-head the friendliest "debate" we've ever seen, no one even bothered to ask a question not related to healthcare, immigration or Iraq. (We tried, submitting our vote on Politico for moderators to ask a gas tax question.) And then there is John McCain, who continues to baffle us with his environmental rhetoric, the most eager Republican we've ever seen to talk about the dangers of CO2 emissions and climate change. We saw him on Leno last night and he was still talking about it. How this can play well with the GOP base is mystifying, but it obviously has yet to turn into a liability. At least not yet. Stay tuned for a better analysis of McCain and all the remaining candidates as Super Tuesday approaches.

Yeah, OK, we can be the change that we want to see in the world. But unless powerful people in powerful positions want to be that change as well, nothing's going to change.
So now, finally, there's a place where you can go for news and analysis of politics from an environmental perspective.
