Full of material satisfaction, I hit the streets of Denver with my fellow San Diego delegates just as the first demonstration (at least the first I saw) passed by. According to the banners we saw, the group, made up primarily of twenty-somethings, was protesting the existing order—capitalism, the military-industrial-complex and, yes, the Democratic Party.

As demonstrations go, it was barely insistent. Nonetheless, when we found ourselves between a phalanx of riot-geared police on foot and horseback and the approaching demonstrators, we quickly took refuge in a pizza parlor. (Sadly, arrests were made on Sunday, and another demonstration from the same group on Monday resulted in arrests and tear-gassing.)
