Depending on the technology used, utility-scale solar installations can face certain challenges: water for cooling and a large enough land area that no one will mind covering in solar panels or mirrors. But one challenge has been little noted: Getting the operations and maintenance staff needed to move into the desert wilds for any length of time. Acciona Solar Power, a division of the Spanish renewable energy firm, powered up Nevada Solar One the first utility-scale solar power plant to operate in the United States in 17 years. Says CEO Dan Kabel, "It can be a big challenge to get the people you need to live out in the middle of nowhere on a long term basis." Luckily, he said, "one of our main guys out there had worked on the previous [utility-scale projects], so there was some great pride to going back to work there. The question is how do you get them to stay." In other words, confirmed desert wilderness lovers only need apply! Comments (3)

You are a bit out of date there is already a large scale plant under construction in Egypt, which will be repeated in the US later on.
